Minutes of the USS Askari (ARL-30) Association – June 30, 2001

President Ed Toth called the meeting to order at 10:43 A.M.

Members in attendance:
Ed Toth Ace Reno Paul Erasmus John Roth Merrill Davis Lee Daley

Old Business

Acting Secretary Merrill Davis read the Minutes of the 1999 meeting which were approved as read.

President Toth indicated the Association has approximately $1400. An exact Treasurer’s report was not available since the Treasurer was not present at the meeting.

New Business:
President Toth nominated John Roth to assume the responsibility of Treasurer and Merrill Davis to assume the responsibility of Secretary. The nominations were seconded and approved. Current officers of the Association are: Ed Toth, President; Al Wolfe, Vice President; John Roth, Treasurer; Merrill Davis, Secretary and Chaplain.

Attendees discussed how to attract new members and how to interest current members in attending the bi-annual meeting. Ace Reno indicated he would place timely notices in veterans’ publications to help ensure all potential members know about the Association. President Toth indicated he would continue mailing announcements to the present membership.

Dues notices have not been sent to members for several years and many members are in arrears. After discussion, it was moved that annual dues notification be sent to members by the Treasurer; that we will operate on a member year that runs from July 1 through June 30; and that all members be considered paid in full by paying dues for the year beginning July 1, 2001. The motion was seconded and approved. Attendees also decided that non-dues paying members will be retained on the rolls as inactive members. Names will not be deleted for nonpayment of dues.

There was considerable discussion about where we should meet. The consensus was that we continue to tie our meeting with the MFRA since our numbers are too small to meet independently. Further, the MFRA is a good recruiting tool, especially for the Viet Nam era vets.

President Toth reported that Vice President Al Wolfe is experiencing health problems and may decide to vacate his position. It was moved, seconded and approved that the President make an interim appointment to the Vice President position should Al Wolfe decide to vacate his position. The attendees wish Al a speedy recovery and hope he will be able to continue as Vice President.

The meeting was adjourned at 11:45 A.M.
Respectfully submitted,

Merrill Davis
Secretary
