That is my name. Askari. I have so many things in common with the ship that it is not funny. First of all I'm on active duty in the U.S. Navy, I'm a petty officer 1st class, I'm in the Seabees and I was born on March 2nd, same day that the ship was. If you could give me information about my last name I'm curious as to my relationship with the name and where it came from. I'm stationed at Roosevelt Roads PR. Please e-mail me

Roger Metz, how many of your buffies did I brake coming back from Saigon??? I also appriciate the visit to the Tansannut AFB officer club (I used his ID) Ask Roger Metz about my speeding ticket from Saigon with him and Mr. Bohlen. I have to be the only sailor to ever get a speeding ticket in Viet Nam

Signed on 10/7/98, but it only put on my first name and I have always gone by Doug not William, so I thought I better try again in case someone wanted to contact me, and did not know my first name. I also have the book "Riverine Assault Force TF 117" from 1967. Has a list of all plank owners for all ships and boats, plus pictures.

Can't believe I found this site, brings back some memories. Served on Askari 03/69 to 03/70 short for time now but will be back. I do have some photos of her during that time period. Best to all "JC"
