Comments: I can't thank you enough for creating this page. My dad was Cdr. WJ Bartee. The Askari was a big part of his life. He is no longer with us. It made me feel a little like he was sitting here with me looking over the pictures of "his" baby. God bless you and thank you.

Comments: My father, Commander Walter Knight, served as the last captain of the Askari. He would love to hear from any of his shipmates. He retired in 1975. If y'all have a reunion, please let him know. Thanks to all of you for your service.
Comments: Glad to see some are still around. Answered a fire call in 1972 from my fav. beer barge. The Park County responded as did elements of UDT13. We had a great time that nite. Salute guys.....

Comments: It was a long time ago when I was there 70-71. Some of the best and worst of times of my life. Roger Metz, Bill Graham and Doyle Chancey were there when QM3 Allen from Roanoke VA was known as "Bird Dawg" the guitar dude..
Comments: I'm trying to locate Batchelder who was in A-gang with Mehltretter and me 1968-1969. I've tried Northern Idaho which is where I thought he was from, to no avail. Does anyone remember his first name?
