Just wanted to give all who served in Askari a long overdue "Thank You and Bravo Zulu" for the extensive repair of my Monitor, M-111-3, after it was severely damaged in battle on 15 September, 1967.

I joined Askari in Vung Tau, while she was still grey and before we took her up the river to Dong Tam. I was a JG and the ship's First LT in 1967-68. We painted her Marine Corps Green and designed the alongside barges. The XO was a mustang named Craft; probably long gone now.

Was on board from Oct70 to Decommissioning in Guam. Was ENC in charge of inside & outside Engine shops in R-2 Division. Many fond memories of one hard working ship. Signed the log awhile back, now have new E-mail address.

My father, Otis D. Rea served on this ship from 1945-1949. If any of you knew him I would love to visit with you. We feel he was on the ship during the Operation Sandstone. Would just like to know more. As a teenager I was too busy being a teenager and didn't listen to his stories. Wish I had. All this is very interesting to me. Thank you for your time.
