Greetings fellow shipmates. I was CSSN Culwell while aboard from around March 1971 to August 1971 when the ship was turned over to the Indonesian Navy. After a break in service, I retired from the Navy as an AZ1 in 2001.

I served on the Askari August 1969 - August 1970. Nothing like serving on a "Green" ship in the U.S. Navy.

My name is Nathan, grandson to Walter E. Knight. I've just found this site and am grateful for the care going into keeping memory of the ship's great service. Thank you all for your service.
