Comments: I was onboard the USS Askari from September 1966 thru October 1967. I was with the repair department and worked on the riverboats in Nam. Hard to believe this October will be 50 years since Vietnam. I was 18 yrs young at that time. At times it still seems like yesterday. I remember talking with a young man the night before his boat went out on patrol the next day, he didn't want to go. He and two of his crew died that day. That memory still comes back to me. Vietnam will forever be remembered in my mind. Bless all of you who served.

Comments: I was the 2nd class EN in the main engine room (Main Control)when left VN and took her to Guam. All the crew got new orders when we got to Guam and me, gunny, and a bosom were the last 3 on her when we trained the Indonesia navy that we turned her over to. The Indo Captain tried to get me to go to Indonesia on her but was denied by the American captain. All 3 of us spent around 3 weeks in guam till bumming a ride on a Aussie plane back to Saigon. We than went to our new command NSA Viet-Nam. I miss my service on her and my Main Engines and all the Shipmates that I served with.
